"Libertine Humiliations"
Explanation of the Lyrics
This is my tranlation of the original explanations of the lyrics by SAS de L'Argilière. Translating his writings is not an easy task and my translation skills are limited. I did my best but if you read French you may prefer to look at the original version.
"Libertine Humiliations" is not a concept album, but 10 completely separate songs with several quite distinct topics. Topics recuring in the style of the group or innovating on this new album. I warn all those which think that Misanthrope is going too far in its interviews. Often the journalist takes as much pleasure than us to make our words... mysteries. We only express our art and the lyricism which accompanies it. These 10 pieces have been composed in a more traditional and poetic way that on "Visionnaire", the dialectic goes farther and the metaphors abound. Perceive in these 10 texts new indices on the Misanthrope enigma. "Libertine Humiliations" is a compilation of texts for which an introduction seemed futile to us. There is neither warning, nor censure on this album. Let the reign of integrist and artistic Metal be, by a new form of group where power and intelligence will make this musical style which is so dear to us shine again... Extreme Metal. Misanthrope is not a victim of the amazing success of "Libertine Humiliations", the Misanthropist is alone, staring at you to report, like a lawyer, on its music and its statements. Good appreciation, we salute you and see you in May on stage of the French theatres in company of SEPTIC FLESH and NATRON, for the spectacle and the tears.

This song is the transition between "Visionnaire" and "Libertine Humiliations". Alceste, the hero of Molière, for the first time is reincarneted as S.A.S De L'Argilière, his descendant of the 20th century. He will travel across the next world, like a half-god he will search for the mortal remains of Molière, his creator. He will cross hell, purgatory and paradise, finally giving a second birth to Molière and extend the harmony lost to humanity. It is one of the rare positive and forwrd looking titles for Alceste. The concept of the initiatory voyage through space and time is always present. It is one of the major texts of the album.

A new topic and new scenes are presented here. We find the traditional subject of the bullfight completely diverted of its principal attraction. Here the Matador is death and abomination. He directs his public like the animal which he will put to death in a barbarian and cruel play. A horrible description of human cruelty, hatred and the macabre social extremism of people where all is predetermined and singularly regulated in advance. The matador is admired and create refinement like our current stars and gods, all that one sees in the medias is only trickery and lie. One is used against oneself. "The animal with a soul"... is us, and one was always attracted by the wolf!

3) AT 666 DAYS...
A return to the vindicative and uniting topic of the Hypochondrium Forces, Misanthropist from generation to generation in the love of unfaithful Célimène. The stage is set and rebellion can start. We are at the dawn of the revival, at 666 days of the end of our century, an important time for our destiny, we all dreamed to live after the year 2000, but what will happen? Who will we become? It is this passage of an apocalyptic or royal end which we describe; our fears and our anguishes, but always united and "Hypochondres" we harness our mountings, with the end of humanity as happiness longing for death and emptiness. We are forever in this world which ignores us and where the insanity reigns in chaos. This topic was the starting point for the composition of this new album, and as always we evolved in an internal cycle of Misanthropic compositions. Aeternitas.

Here is a very beautiful text on the counter-revolution of Vendée. Sulfurous song to read as a history book. It is a beautiful account of the courage of our ancestors. Sometimes credulous and completely endoctrinated by an exteme religion, mankind can make mistakes and go against its principles because of his belief in God. The excesses of the French Republic to stop this Vendean plague were most bloody and cruel. What is considered good or normal can be a form of camouflaged dictatorship. It is tiem for revolt, we must act uncovered facing the others. A superb topic that had to be developed in one of our texts. An experiment never to be renewed. But the fact, I believe that we have already said that history should not reproduce itself. In any case mankind does not learn any lesson from the past and repeats itself invariably. French history has always been a source of inspiration for Misanthrope, the cultural group, that export our stories beyond the oceans.

This song was to be called "The Translucent Nomads", but during the development of the album Jean-Baptiste Boitel asked me to change it into "Total Eclipses Chaos". It is an post-apocalyptic account in the form of the adventures of wandering translucent nomads. One finds here the detachment from all thing and the futility of the existence typical of Misanthrope. In a wa it is our crossing of the desert, these 40 days of fast or composition to complete a work. This nomad represents the eternal orphan, the outcast of all the communities, the true man that the human nature rejects like a scorpion with its poisoned tail. A kind of naked Alceste in the desert on the traces of Christ in a post-nuclear Chaos and suddenly... the eclipse of awakening.

A superb piece where technology and Hypochondre revolution mix as the end of the century is closing by. A title to be added to the concept of the end of the century outlined by "At 666 Days...". We are hatred, the rebellious spirit of our morbid revolution. All of Misanthrope is summarized in this sentence, it is simple, direct and is stripped of any cheating. Words that sound, collide, stumble and really mean something for us. This summarizes our attitude and more than 9 years of concept. The misanthrope questions himself, [...], he is nothing facing everything, loneliness, rejection, despair and vice. Alceste is a man deformed by his passion for life, by his desire of harmony and sharing, h is pulled about in all directions until he becomes delirious. All things are mirrors showing a distorted reflection of what beauty nature gives us... And if the white glare of the new millenium was an atomic cloud!

Even if this text was written back in 1990, it was only partially exploited on the demo version demo of the song of the same title that we recorded in June 1990. The crises of the soul are the first steps of idea "2000" of our Misanthropy. I think it is interesting to see how our ideas evolved and developed through the years. The change from the teenager to the adult is transparent in the texts of the group, there are many things to learn by analyzing our past work. Misanthrope was not done in one day and is not yet at the firmament of his thought. "Crisis Of Soul" is about the torments of life, there is already this cry of suffering to God, already our hearts are full of despair with the idea of the impossibility to go back after each mistake made, wander and being dispossessed of all thing, yes, in these words we recognize ourselves.

To commemorate all the soldiers who died for France and now lying proudly under the Triumphal Arch, here a simple homage to all these worthy men without decoration, that died in the most complete discretion. Their lives were so useful, they never were thanked by anything else but silence. We would not like to seem awkward, nor offend anyone but we have a deep respect in the human sacrifice for any cause. The combat must be carried out, Man exists for revendication, to be essential, preserve the lives of those who sleep in his lair. The unknown and time are the principal concerns of the text, it is a morbid contemplation without hope. I like the soft song of death, answering my tears with its ultimate echo. I like the weariness of playing with what offends because in the hereafter there is no room for crows.

At the court of Louis XIV it was customary to laugh of all frivolity, life, death, what is more futile when all is either appearance and contortion. Here in a noble description, of all that Alceste hates, this small world and its manners to make jealous the middle-class men. The court of the 17th century, was not as austere as one believes, cheating and the exaggeration were comman place in the gardens of His Majesty. And if Versailles was a sanctuary, a vault, another roof. The candle of Saint Madelaine which wavers under the breath of our king. For us all that is all nonsense. The Misanthrope feeds from hatred and doesn't care for the senile and awkward ingenuous. This text is not gentle with the licentiousnesses of any kind, S.A.S is hostile to your precocious mumbling. Let's forget the past and drink with full mouthfuls the poison of my lips. Play has a taste of blood when he devotes himself to sex [...].

Here the final text of the album, the conclusion of this new cycle, the second chapter of our second era because Misanthrope will be reborn from his chains. "Humiliations libertines" is the logical continuation of the erotic theme practised by the group. Apotheosis because too often cherished it is the tabernacle of our deep desires. Just like in "Courtisane Syphilitique" or "La Dandy" sex abounds there until nausea in a description that is more medical and geographical than libidinal. It is the day of anger when the slave becomes disciple and theorist in acupuncture. It is a true swaying between domination and captivity within the sacred temple of libertinage, the "pornoramatherion". Alceste is once more contributing before his reclusion in the mountain. The legend tells that he will spend these last three nights of insanity in the arms of the perfidious Célimène. She will inflict unto him all humiliations and will try an immense joust with her court of marquis. Victor but forever loser he will retire when victory will be complete... Farewell Misanthrope, farewell bitter world. From the deepest of myself Aeternitas.
